Bold Ideas. Bolder Goals
Vidant Medical Center received a Health Resources and Services Administration nursing grant that has helped us make our system even more exceptional. Today, our professional practice environment is satisfying for nurses and our patients receive excellent care. Through this innovative program, we've created a new model of nursing care delivery.

Our Pilot Unit
To increase nurse involvement, we've established a pilot unit that incorporates an advanced practice nurse into the unit leadership team. A strategic steering committee is leading the team, developing and implementing a dynamic, evidenced-based, interdisciplinary model of care. The committee and team are working to improve the nursing environment, decrease work intensity, and assure collaboration and communication. We're already a great place to work. This unit's work is helping to make Vidant Medical Center even better.

Building a Diverse Team
Another key component of this initiative is building a team that's as diverse as our patients. We’ve been working to recruit and retain a diverse staff and encourage non-nursing staff members to pursue nursing education.

Creating New Leaders
The nursing staff plays a key role by designing and testing strategies that support the development of a new model of care delivery. They also help us increase the diversity, number and level of education of the workforce. While building their own leadership and management skills, they improve work processes and sustain a creative, culturally competent environment – one where both patients and staff are even more satisfied.
